Thinking, Moving and Speaking Creatively
Creative Drama Classes
The main part of each session is CREATIVE DRAMA - the students work on either a different improvisation or mini script each week!
Our classes enable children to have something to say, the confidence to say it and the creativity to make it interesting.
Our speech section develops clarity of speech and a voice to which people will want to listen. Ideal for both public speaking and one-on-one communication.
Our dynamic movement section develops physical coordination and expression.
Our classes develop characterisation, creativity, communication, confidence and focus – all helping students feel good in themselves and around others.
Our highly enthusiastic teachers undertake ongoing, intensive training so they can deliver our exclusive curriculum to the high standards we expect. This adds to the degree-level qualifications that all staff possess so that every child is fully involved and motivated throughout every lesson. All teachers and Studio Assistants over 16 are, of course, DBS cleared.

Inspiration Award 2024
Franchisee of the Year 2022
Hi I’m Caryn, I’ve been with the York branch of Drama Kids for 18 years, 11 of them as Principal.
I believe every child deserves to be nurtured as an individual, without pressure – just joy, encouragement and support. Watching them grow in confidence, creativity and performance is the best part of my job. I still teach 7 classes a week, alongside a brilliant, caring team (and help from my husband Jon backstage! He's repsonsible for set design and construction).
I have a BA from Durham and LAMDA Acting Grade VI, and was honoured to receive the CEO Award (2017), Franchisee of the Year (2022) and the Inspiration Award (2024). It’s truly the best job in the world.
I have a BA (Hons) in English from the University of Durham and LAMDA Acting Grade VI .
I attended drama classes myself from 10-16 and found them the perfect way to escape from having a miserable time at school.
My favourite thing about Drama Kids is seeing all our students support each other and hearing them say that in our classes they have found somewhere they feel that they belong.
YASMIN Roe
Yasmin LOVES theatre. After training as a primary school teacher Yasmin wanted to take what she’d learned and apply it to teaching drama. Her favourite part of Drama Kids are the students and the team around her. Everyone is so supportive and kind. It’s brilliant to meet so many creative students and have the privilege of working with them.
Outside of the classroom Yasmin likes to be involved in theatre and has had lots of different roles from acting and directing to writing and set design. Yasmin is a published poet and wrote poetry for the Rugby World Cup.
Yasmin is looking forward to passing on her passion for drama to the next generation and helping them build confidence in every aspect of their lives.

LAURA Castle
I’m Laura, I’m a Drama Teacher in North Yorkshire and I love teaching with Drama Kids! I have a degree in Theatre and a Masters in Community Theatre which gave me the passion for teaching young people. I’m also a radio presenter on the local radio station and enjoy professional and amateur acting when I get the opportunity to. Laura has appeared in local pantomime at the Grand Opera House and was a Police Officer in Series 3 of Happy Valley.
What I love the most about Drama Kids is that I really feel the students feel like a name and not a number, we are one big family where you can express yourself and no one will judge you - plus it’s so much fun, I get to be a big kid!
